The Perfect Abode

I never wanted to find out the sex of our baby. I longed for the surprise of the midwife calling out those words ‘It’s a girl’ or ‘It’s a boy’ but I often look back at that decision and think…..’what if?! What if I had know from the beginning?! Would it have made my preparation for our new arrival any easier?

As soon as I began to set up our Baby’s nursery I knew I wanted something a little special. I had visions of colour without being gender specific; a unisex room that wasn’t full of the neutral tones which are so typical of ‘off the shelf’ newborn ranges. I wanted a room my baby could grow into without redecorating as soon as she was old enough to use it. So, I set out to find the perfect setup. I trawled through stores and scoured online sites. It took months of research, tears and tantrums to find the unisex, modern accessories I wanted; the quirky shelves, unique furniture and simplistic cot. It was supposed to be exciting and fun but my experience was quite the opposite to say the least; fitting the perfect chest of drawers into the smallest car blew my mind and losing 2 wardrobes in transit reduced me to tears. I just wanted it to be perfect and with my nesting instinct in full swing, it had to be in order well before my due date.

The truth was, I wasn’t the only mama struggling to find the perfect nursery set-up. Tracey, who was expecting her baby just before I was, also struggled to find something unisex and unique; but it was months after our babies were born before we sat down and talked about it. We discussed our failures, our triumphs and our love for all things a little different. Our experiences have given us the desire and passion to deliver modern, quirky and contemporary products to all of the parents out there who are beginning their journey to create the perfect abode for their baby.

Jointly, we have hand selected beautiful items from all around the world. We have chosen products that will excite, charm and inspire parents who are in the process of creating an amazing space for their little one to grow, learn, relax, play and develop. A space that is fun, modern, contemporary and just a little bit unique. Whether you are at the beginning of your journey or in need of a little update, we are sure to have products that you and your little ones will love.

We took our time to research brands we felt would work well together. Brands that would give that minimal, modern and contemporary look that we both loved and know others love too. We carefully reviewed catalogues and placed orders with some amazing brands with incredible products……

Two Heads are Better Than One

One of the first brands we knew we wanted to work with was the UK based company, Two Heads Are Better Than One (THABTO). They are a British design brand producing a unique collection of contemporary gifts, design-led homeware and lifestyle items that can be found in the best design stores around the world, including here at Baby Abode. We chose THABTO after I had made a recent order for one of their picture frames. It was simplicity in a box. It was practical, easy and quickly changeable, not to mention available in three colours ways: black, white and ply. The frames are modern and perfect for any baby’s nursery or child’s room.  With its magnetic snap close action and an adjustable cord, I had a picture ready to hang in seconds. I was blown away with its ease and practicality and at that, I was sure we should have THABTO onboard.

Olive et Oriel

To complement our THABTO frames we knew we needed high quality prints to adorn the walls of your baby’s abode, and so, we came across Olive et Oriel. Founded in 2013, Olive et Oriel is a creative studio based on the beautiful central coast of Australia. They produce superior quality prints and posters using gorgeous matte stock and luxurious inks. Their prints are beautifully modern and ideal for our THABTO frames. So, whether it’s a realistic animal print or a modern superhero print; Baby Abode will have a little something to suit your room.  We both have our eye on a few of these prints for our little ones and cannot wait to share them with all of the other lovely mama’s out there.

Another brand we wanted onboard is the stylish Danish company, OYOY. They are inspired by classic Scandinavian design with simplistic undertones and a Japanese twist. In late 2014 Mini OYOY was born and with it a cute collection was develop for kids and playful souls. All products are made with exquisitely high quality materials in sweet colours and designs.

We both first fell in love with the OYOY mini collection when we came across their Adventure and World rugs. We knew we both wanted these rugs for our little ones and felt strongly that other mamas would love to have them too. They are designed in a unisex monochrome colour palette which we were instantly attracted to.  The hand printed, woven cotton play mats, both feature great designs.

The adventure rug with its long and narrow roads through mountains, bears and forests work perfectly as a play-mat for vehicles to drive over or as a decorative rug to add to your child’s bedroom. We love its whimsical design and its focus on nature and the great outdoors. The world rug features a beautifully illustrated world design. We love that they are both educational, bringing learning through play, exploration and investigation.  Imagine the infinite play opportunities, questions and stories these rugs will bring. Provide your little one with transport vehicles and animals and be prepared to be amazed by their imagination and creativity as they sit and play with their toys!

These are just a few of the wonderful brands here at Baby Abode. We want you be thrilled, excited and inspired by the products we sell. Our mission is to create a place for all you wonderful mama’s to relax; have fun and enjoy your quest to create the perfect abode for your little one. We hope you love our incredible products as much as we do.
